Cathedral and Bridge of Sighs
This view shows Glasgow, or St. Mungo's Cathedral from the south prior to the demolition of its western towers. The `Bridge of Sighs', designed by David Hamilton (1768-1843) in the 1830s, was erected over the Molendinar Burn which subsequently was culverted. It leads to the Necropolis which opened in 1833 and was Britain's third hygienic cemetery, based on the model of Pere Lachaise in Paris
