Digital Society & Economy IRT Lead Bridgette Wessels is working with the C21 Editions project in welcoming submissions for their International Symposium on the Future of Digital Editing & Publishing.
International Symposium on the Future of Digital Editing & Publishing
University College Cork, Ireland, June 6th & 7th, 2024
The C21 Editions project invites scholars, editors, publishers, technologists, librarians, and all stakeholders to contribute to the International Symposium on the Future of Digital Editing & Publishing, a conference dedicated to exploring the state-of-the-art in digital scholarly editing and publishing.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- The evolution and future trajectories of digital scholarly editing and publishing;
- Digital textual scholarship and innovative approaches to editing and publishing;
- The role of artificial intelligence in the editing and publishing process;
- The implications of born-digital cultural materials for digital scholarly editing and publishing;
- Open access, copyright, sustainability, and the economics of digital publishing;
- Digital pedagogy and the incorporation of scholarly editions in academic curricula.
Thanks to the generous support of the Irish Research Council and UKRI-AHRC, delegates will not be required to pay registration fees to participate in this event. Furthermore, free campus accommodation will be made available to programme contributors, where required. The symposium is an in-person event for which remote participation will not be facilitated.
Symposium proceedings will be published by the Digital Humanities Institute, University of Sheffield.
C21 Editions is an international collaboration between University College Cork, the Digital Humanities Institute at the University of Sheffield, and the University of Glasgow. The project is seeking to explore and make a direct contribution to the future of digital scholarly editing and digital publishing. C21 Editions and the International Symposium on the Future of Digital Editing & Publishing are funded by UKRI-AHRC and the Irish Research Council under the UK-Ireland Collaboration in the Digital Humanities Research Grants, grant numbers AH/W001489/1 and IRC/W001489/1.
Submission Guidelines
The Symposium invites proposals for 20-minute academic conference presentations. Extended abstracts of ~1,500 words (.docx format) should be submitted to Dr James O’Sullivan <james.osullivan@ucc.ie> by December 1st, 2023, 5pm GMT (UTC+00:00; Meán-Am Greenwich). Any queries regarding the conference can be directed to Dr O’Sullivan at the aforementioned email address.
Notification of acceptance will be January 2024.
Keynote Lecture
Digital scholarly editing with and without collaboration
Professor Gabriel Egan, De Montfort University
GABRIEL EGAN is one of the four General Editors of the 'New Oxford Shakespeare' complete-works edition, to be completed in 2025; the others are Gary Taylor, John Jowett, and Terri Bourus. He co-edits the scholarly journal 'Theatre Notebook'. He teaches students the arts of letter-press printing and computational analysis of texts. He advocates for Open Access, Open Source, and Open Data principles and the liberating consequences of everyone learning computer programming.
