‘Digital Twin and Probabilistic Certification for Future Air Mobility’
My research focuses on flight dynamics, rotorcraft safety, and autonomous system development, leveraging digital twins, probabilistic models, and real-time flight simulation. I seek collaborations with experts in AI, control theory, and air traffic management, alongside industry and regulatory partners, to advance self-certification frameworks for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). Through CoSE, I aim to integrate interdisciplinary expertise in machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and regulatory science. My vision includes securing EPSRC and ERC grants, UKRI Fellowships, and industry collaborations to develop resilient, autonomous flight systems and next-generation airspace management solutions.
Dr Fabien Cholet, James Watt School of Engineering
‘Nature-Based Engineered Ecosystems for Decentralised Wastewater Treatment’
My research aims to understand the microbial processes that drive pollutant removal in engineered ecosystems, such as water treatment biofilters. I am developing molecular techniques combining DNA amplification (PCR) and sequencing to identify both the microbes present and their activity. Despite focusing very small organisms, I seek to make a large societal impact by optimising nature-based water treatment solutions for decentralised rural communities. Through CoSE, aim to develop collaborations with social scientists to engage these communities. My goal is to secure an early career fellowship (RAEng or Leverhulme) and build partnerships between academia, industry, and rural communities to deliver affordable, sustainable water treatment solutions.
Dr Jaylan Azer, Adam Business School
‘The Human Perspective: Why Every Research Team Needs a Social Science Researcher’
Dr. Jaylan Azer, Senior Lecturer at Adam Smith Business School, specializes in social engagement, behavioral science, AI, and social media analytics. With publications in top-tier (4-star) journals and expertise in innovative methods like Netnography, I excel in both qualitative and quantitative research, including behavioral experiments. My interdisciplinary approach allows collaboration across disciplines, particularly in projects capturing social impact and human behavior. I am eager to engage in upcoming funding or fellowship opportunities, and CoSE’s insights into future calls and team-building can help maximize success in securing grants and advancing impactful research.
