In celebration of International Women’s Day 2023, the School of Computing Science was proud to host and sponsor Women Techmakers Scotland in their milestone first event, with sponsorships from Google, Morgan Stanley, ThinkAnalytics, GitHub and Nearform.
Over 40 technical talks were presented on the theme #DareToBe, with speakers ranging from ten years old to those with three decades of experience. The theme covered diversity in Computing Science, and subjects included the latest developments in AI, the future of fem-tech, The Singularity and DressCode, with events including CISCO Women of Impact and BCS Digital Skills Network Event.
Speakers included our very own Computing Science undergraduate students Angela Ng and Ishita Narsiker, as well as Toni Scullion, who gave a presentation at the CISCO Women of Impact event on the subject of Embracing Equality in Computer Science. Marisa Clarke-Metcalf of CISCO said:
"I was humbled beyond words to have the opportunity to host Toni Scullion for a live discussion in our Cisco UKI session… Toni absolutely blew all of us away with the exceptional story of her scenic route to an honorary doctorate and all of the incredible work that she does to promote the importance of computer science in schools and supporting girls into tech".
