The University of Glasgow’s Digital Health Validation Lab (DHVL) is pleased to announce its partnership with the newly established Centre of Excellence for Regulatory Science & Innovation in AI & Digital Health (CERSI-AI), with Professor David Lowe serving on its founding leadership team.
Funded by the UK government, CERSI-AI is part of a broader national initiative to enhance healthcare through innovation. The Centre will tackle regulatory challenges associated with AI and digital health technologies, bringing together leading experts from academia, industry, regulatory bodies, and the NHS. Its mission is to accelerate the development of safe, effective AI-driven healthcare solutions and reinforce the UK’s position as a global leader in digitally enabled healthcare.
As a delivery partner of CERSI-AI, DHVL, alongside the West of Scotland Innovation Hub (WoSIH), will play a pivotal role in supporting AI startups and healthcare providers in navigating the complex digital health regulatory landscape - one of the primary barriers to adoption. By providing guidance and expertise, DHVL and WoSIH aim to help innovators bring high-impact solutions to market and scale them effectively, ultimately benefiting healthcare systems in the UK and beyond.
A central focus of DHVL’s involvement will be the generation of real-world clinical evidence to support regulatory submissions. This requirement for the AI and digital health market is rapidly expanding, and is critical in assuring the safety, effectiveness, and compliance of digital health technologies such as apps, medical devices, and software solutions.
By joining CERSI-AI and its esteemed network of partners, DHVL strengthens its commitment to accelerating life-saving healthcare solutions for the benefit of patients. Hosted by the University of Birmingham, partners include the NIHR AI & Digital Incubator, leading universities, the NHS, and companies from across the UK, working with regulators to support the innovation and regulatory pathway to accelerate beneficial AI technologies to patients.
CERSI-AI is one of seven Centres of Excellence for Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSIs), each receiving up to £1 million in funding. These centres, led by academic institutions, independent innovators, and regulatory leaders, are dedicated to advancing safer and faster pathways for the development of innovative medicines and devices.
