Glasgow-based engineering company MR CoilTech received the Innovative Collaboration Award at the 2025 Scotland’s Life Sciences Awards ceremony, held on Thursday 13th March in GlasgowThis prestigious award recognises groundbreaking partnerships that bridge industry, academia, and healthcare to drive commercial potential through cutting-edge technologies, products, or services.

The award to MR CoilTech recognised the company's role in leading a pioneering collaboration developing an innovative radiofrequency (RF) head coil for 7T MRI, partnering with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the University of Glasgow, and Glasgow-based medical device design company Wideblue Ltd. The team brought together engineering expertise, research excellence, and clinical insights to achieve a next-generation coil with unmatched imaging resolution, signal quality, and ease of use.

MR CoilTech is an industry partner in the University of Glasgow-led Living Laboratory for Precision Medicine programme – an internationally leading programme supported by UKRI Strength in Places Funding. Building on the successful head coil collaboration, the Living Laboratory Coil Development project is establishing a pipeline of new body-part-specific coils with the 7T MRI scanner within ICE to extend the imaging capabilities and use of 7T MRI to more parts of the body than currently possible.

Receiving the Innovative Collaboration Award marks a significant milestone for MR CoilTech and reinforces its strong collaboration with the Living Laboratory to advance next-generation imaging solutions that will enhance disease diagnosis.
