1994 Delta Club Reunion

The 1994 Delta Club celebrated their 30th anniversary since graduating from the University of Glasgow with a visit back to campus and an evening function at the Royal College of Physicians.
Our day started with some of us attending a talk and tour of the Glasgow University Medical School by Professor Matthew Walters – Head of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing and Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow – who is a fellow graduate of Delta 94. The talk was very interesting as was the tour where we got to see the rooms where clinical scenarios are acted out for medical and nursing students to participate in as a team. We were amazed to learn that the intake is now 400 students per year – double that when we attended. We then had a drink and catch-up.
The evening function was at the Royal College of Physicians – an impressive venue where we were greeted with a drinks reception. Thank goodness for the name badges which helped identify fellow students we hadn't seen for years! There was a map where we could pin where we had travelled from – some had travelled from as far as Singapore, Australia and New Zealand!
We had speeches by fellow students with contrasting careers – Professor Sir Gregor Smith, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland and Libby McGugan, former A+E Consultant – now working as a motivational coach, speaker, mentor and author. Both speeches were inspiring. The evening was ably chaired by Professor Kevin Rooney – professor of care improvement and Consultant Intensivist and his speech was nostalgic and witty.
Following a delicious meal there was a ceilidh and a photo booth for fun photos. There was plenty of time to catch up with old friends and reminisce on days gone by, and have a boogie at the disco to classics from the late 80s/90s. It was a great day and night, and everyone felt uplifted, filled with positivity and love. We look forward to another reunion, perhaps in another 10yrs time …
