Short Description

Reinforce critical reading and reviewing skills learned in the Research Methods and Techniques course;

Enable students to develop research skills in furtherance to applying for a postgraduate research degree;
Develop students'
scientific communication and presentation skills.

Coursework 100% (Paper Review 20%, Research Proposal 50%, Poster 30% and Presentation 30%)

Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? Not applicable

Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below. 

Course Aims

Reinforce critical reading and reviewing skills learned in the Research Methods and Techniques course; Enable students to develop their critical thinking and scientific writing capabilities; Develop students' writing and presentation skills.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate their critical reading skills by preparing a peer review of a research paper

2. Exhibit understanding of research in their specialist area by preparing a research proposal

3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate specific research by presenting a research poster.

Submission of at least 75% of coursework
