This course is designed to develop students' skills in planning and executing public performances.

Individual tutorials, normally 10 hours total over 20 weeks, at times to be arranged between students and teacher; attend at least 10 weekly lunchtime concerts (1.10pm); 5 workshop / masterclasses (3pm) on Thursdays as scheduled in MyCampus; 5 supervised and 4 unsupervised rehearsals (3pm) on Thursdays over 20 weeks as scheduled in MyCampus.  This one of the Honours options in Music which may not run every year. Group Performance Exercise, and Portfolio (audience programme, rehearsal diary, press plan):

15 minutes (20% individual mark, 10% group mark) - 30%

Concert Programme, and Commentary (1000 words) - 15%

Solo or Ensemble Concert:, c.20 minutes - 55%

Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non-Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below. 

This course will provide the opportunity to

■ perform repertoire of a degree of difficulty in advance of that for Performance (Intermediate) and commensurate with the student's level and range of musicianship

■ develop further in the diversity of participation in group performance activity

■ acquire further skills in the organisational and entrepreneurial aspects of music making in relation to public performance

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ identify, select and programme a range of repertoire of Higher level standard, suited to the student's instrument/s or voice, setting an appropriate level of technical challenge, and identifying reliable editions where necessary.

■ realise the chosen works effectively and with technical command, in stylistically appropriate ways.

■ evaluate performances by listening and responding critically to their own and those of their peers.

■ select suitable musical colleagues in order to plan and rehearse a collaborative musical ensemble.

■ identify and deploy key aspects of stagecraft in performing.

■ identify and deploy administration, management and entrepreneurial skills appropriate for the repertoire and performance context.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
