Short Description
An academic year spent studying at a university in a country in which Italian is spoken. A Learning Agreement must be approved by the Residence Abroad Convener. Students must take courses worth an equivalent of 120 Glasgow University Credits and pass the equivalent of at least 60 credits. Documentary evidence of successful completion of the year of study is required for progression into Junior Honours.

Studying for a year at a Italian-speaking university will:
■ enable you to experience full immersion in the life and culture of your host country;
■ allow you to study a range of courses, undertake assessment within the host university's system and gain credits for the courses studied;
■ help you to achieve a high degree of proficiency in spoken and written Italian;
■ enable you to enhance your knowledge of specific areas of Italian literature, cinema and other cultural forms in preparation for the work of the Honours years;
■ enable you to develop an in-depth understanding of the culture and society of the host country as well as an enhanced awareness of intercultural issues;
■ develop skills of independence and initiative within the framework of the study programme;
■ through the above, to enhance the value of your overall degree programme in preparation for future employment or further study.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ fulfil the learning outcomes on the relevant courses at the host university.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit a completed Year Abroad Certificate of Study Placement and a Transcript from the host university which documents completed courses worth an equivalent of 120 Glasgow University Credits, of which at least 60 must be at a pass grade.
Students who do not pass the equivalent of at least 60 University of Glasgow credits must submit good cause and progression to honours will be at the discretion of the language convenors and the senior adviser for SMLC.
