This course aims to increase students' understanding of the nature of Western European economic integration in the context of the development of the European economy since 1945.

One two-hour examination paper = 60%
One 2,000-3,000 word essay = 20%

One project assessment = 20%

The course aims to increase students' understanding of the nature of Western European economic integration in the context of the development of the European economy since 1945.

By the end of the course, students are expected:

1. To be conversant with the overall course of European integration and the main institutions of the EC in the period 1945-1992.

1. To understand the main models used to explain the development of the European Community.

1. To be aware of differences in the history of particular EC common policies and to be able to assess the significance of these differences.

1. To be able to present reasoned argument orally and to utilise illustrative material and techniques.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
