Short Description
The course aims to develop the acquisition and integration of a knowledge base in assessing the needs of partially dentate patients and will also help students to develop skills in the treatment planning and delivery of appropriate immediate and subsequent treatment. Students will be exposed to a range of clinical and technical skills pertinent to the technical and clinical stages requisite to such treatment.

Management of the Edentulous Patient;
Preventative mechanisms in Prosthodontics.
Assessment
There will be an end of year examination, and a 3,000 word assignment (essay).

Course Aims
1. To develop the acquisition and integration of a knowledge base in assessing the needs of partially dentate patients.
2. To develop skills in the treatment planning and delivery of appropriate immediate and subsequent treatment for the partially dentate patients.
3. To develop a range of clinical and technical skills pertinent to the technical and clinical stages requisite to such treatment.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to demonstrate critical knowledge of and competence in:
1. The diagnosis and management of partially dentate patients.
2. The provision of dental care especially when working with dental care professionals.
3. The planning and design of removable prostheses, including surveying and analysing of casts.
4. Cross infection control and consent issues in relation to health and safety of the patient.
5. The technological processes involved in the fabrication of fixed/removable prostheses.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
