Physiology, Sports Science & Nutrition

Background

Established in 1996/7, this Honours science course trains undergraduate students in the basics of general nutrition and provides them with a specialist knowledge of sports nutrition.

The importance of Nutrition in Sports and Exercise Science is becoming increasingly recognized. Evidence for this is the increased number of nutritional publications in journals of physiology and sports science and the formation of an Olympic Nutrition Committee. These developments are creating increased demand for individuals with training in sports science, physiology and nutrition. However, there are very few Sports Science courses with a significant and adequate coverage of Nutrition.

This degree will train individuals in the science of exercise and sports and nutritional science. By the end of the course, students should have a well rounded knowledge of nutrition as well as a special knowledge of sports nutrition.
