Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide [Biological Sciences]
The University of Glasgow is home to expertise in a wide range of contemporary integrative biology, from molecule to organism.
Our strengths include:
- cell engineering
- plant science
- molecular and cell biology
- systems and synthetic biology
- genetics, transgenics and functional genomics
- protein characterisation
Our facilities
We are supported by a world-class technology base. This includes next-generation sequencing, microarrays, proteomics and metabolomics through the Sir Henry Wellcome Functional Genomics Facility and the Scottish National Centre for Metabolomics.
Our partners
Our broad scope of work involves collaborations both within the University’s College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences, and with mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers across and beyond the University.
This means that we can adapt our approach to strategic priorities as opportunities arise. We continue to be successful in attracting funding from:
- Medical Research Council
- Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
- Wellcome
- major agencies, as well as major funding from industry.
Our research
We believe in multidisciplinary working. Our research varies from protein trafficking to plant circadian rhythms and from the structure of membrane proteins to cell engineering.
This research informs our excellent postgraduate training programme. So if you're a researcher in the early stage of your career and you’d like to join us as a Fellow, you’ll find a range of opportunities available.
