Course Aims

This course will explore politics in Scotland since devolution, with an emphasis on recent developments. We will look at how Scottish political institutions compare to their counterparts elsewhere and how Scotland differs from Westminster. We will explore Scottish nationalism, the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Government, Scotland's different electoral systems, its voting behaviour, its political parties, and its public and social policies. The quality of Scottish democracy will also be critically examined.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

••Analyse and explain the importance of Scottish political system

•Evaluate the works of scholars who have written about the role of political institutions and actors in Scotland

•Apply the knowledge gained in the process of evaluating and discussing the literature

•Advance reasoned and factually supported arguments, orally and in writing

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
