Short Description

Forensic Psychology applies psychological theory to understanding crime, policing, criminal justice and rehabilitation. In this course we will outline the origins of Forensic Psychology within the context of Psychology as a whole, and explore key theories and methodologies within the field, including offender profiling. With a critical appraisal of recent evidence from the field, this course will help students develop a basic understanding of this popular field of Psychology.

Course Aims

This aims of this course are to:

■ Introduce students to the field of Forensic Psychology and the work of forensic psychologists

■ Develop students' understanding of key theories and methodologies used in Forensic Psychology

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Describe the scope of Forensic Psychology and its relationship to the wider field of Psychology

■ Evaluate key theories and methodologies within the field of Forensic Psychology

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
