This is an introduction to theatre in Scotland.
The course will focus on the representative texts and productions, histories and institutions, theories, concepts and personae that have shaped the Scottish theatre culture as it is today. This will be achieved through analytical discussion and selected critical writing, as well as practical interaction with artists and companies themselves.

What you will learn
The course will:
- provide students with a broad introduction to contemporary theatre in Scotland
- introduce students to key institutions through which contemporary theatre practice is created and consumed
- explore the influence of the traditions of popular and political theatre on contemporary Scottish theatre and performing practices
- discuss and analyse recent and current theatre texts produced in Scotland
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- engage analytically and critically with Scottish plays, demonstrating close reading skills and an acute ability to analyse text
- articulate clear arguments in relation to Scottish theatre, recognising social and cultural impacts as well as connections between personalities and organisations through history and into today’s industry
- engage in critical discussion about Scottish theatre
- present their ideas critically, clearly, and coherently in written and spoken form

Entry requirements
- GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent)
- you should be currently enrolled at an international higher education institution.
If your first language is not English, you must meet our minimum proficiency level:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training) overall score of 6.0, with no sub test less than 5.5
- we also accept equivalent scores in other recognised qualifications such as ibTOEFL, CAE, CPE and more
