Summary

Become more confident as an intermediate speaker of the language in interactions with others at a personal and professional level. You will learn how to deal with most situations encountered in the areas where the language is spoken, linking stretches of language to communicate effectively in a range of general and professional topics, and current events. Your increased cultural awareness will help you understand aspects that go beyond what is being said. 

Choose this course if you want to: 

- Communicate with some confidence in familiar, personal and professional topics, exchanging, checking and confirming information. 

- Recognise the line of argument and identify factual information, general messages and specific detail on everyday and job-related topics 

- Develop language skills needed to describe experiences, dreams, hopes and ambitions in some detail.  

- Have opportunities to exchange ideas on a range of subjects, in your areas of interest and beyond, with other speakers. 

Who is this course for?

This course is recommended for learners who are already independent users of the language and want to further develop their skills, having completed a lower intermediate course or reached B1 level (for example, by having obtained a Higher or AS-Level).  

In this course, you will be working at level B1 and towards level B2 of the Common European Framework of Languages.

Qualifications/credits

Course assessment is optional but on successful completion you will obtain 10 credits at Level 1 (SCQF 7). 

Mode of study

Language classes are interactive and collaborative, with plenty of exposure to the language and many opportunities to practise and learn with your peers.  

You will also have access to Moodle, the University’s virtual learning environment, where you will find additional activities for you to practise what you have learnt in class and to extend your knowledge. 

Prospects

At this level, you will be able to interact with speakers of the language on familiar, personal and professional topics, giving you some working proficiency in the workplace.  

Or you can progress to the next step, Upper Intermediate B2, to continue to develop your skills in the language.
