Summary

This week-long course introduces the absolute beginner to ‘seeing’ and drawing accurately. Students will learn how to use a variety of drawing techniques and drawing media and how to use line, tone, texture and colour in a drawing, presented in a series of simple lessons and demonstrations. The course will consider themes such as portraiture and still life in a variety of styles. Materials are not provided. 

Areas you'll explore include: 

  • How to 'see' like an artist and draw subject matter which is accurate in proportion, in a variety of styles 
  • Drawing techniques, media and equipment 

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:  

  • Draw technically and accurately in line and tone, texture and colours. 
  • Demonstrate skills in a variety of drawing techniques, media and style. Produce finished drawings

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has an interest in learning to draw, and practical art in general.      

Qualifications/credits

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications. 

Mode of study

Classes take place 6 hours a day over one week.

A mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study. 

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
