Summary

This course introduces the absolute beginners to various painting techniques in translucent and opaque media in simple exercises. The student will learn the differences between various painting mediums, for example, watercolour and oil, and how to use various methods of application. This course will include an introduction to colour mixing. Themes such as landscape, still life and abstract will be considered. 

Please note materials are not provided, but a suggested materials list will be given ahead of the class.   

Areas you'll explore include: 

  • Painting techniques and materials, learning how to 'see' like an artist. 
  • Media and equipment Paint such as watercolour, gouache and acrylic and surfaces, such as paper, panel, and canvas. 
  • How to produce paintings in a variety of media and techniques. 

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Critically analyse the importance of visual perception in producing artwork and use it in making art. 
  • Produce a range of art that demonstrates their facility in a variety of painting media 
  • Practically demonstrate a facility in the media, techniques, and styles covered I the course.

Anyone who has an interest in learning to paint and learn to see how an artist sees.

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications.

A mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study 

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
