Summary

Become more confident in the use of the language at an intermediate level and develop your sociocultural knowledge. The focus of the course is on language practice through a variety of relevant topics, from current affairs to literature, films, art and history. You will have the opportunity to interact with others and participate in discussions in these areas. 

Choose this course if you want to:  

- Explore relevant sociocultural materials permitting an insight into customs, attitudes, values and beliefs. 

- Increase your intercultural awareness and competence, and appreciate differences with your own culture. 

- Communicate with some confidence on topical issues, exchanging, checking and confirming information. 

- Recognise the line of argument and main conclusions in a variety of texts and write clear detailed texts on a range of topical subjects. 

Who is this course for?

This course is recommended for learners who are independent users of the language and want to consolidate, develop and widen their skills by focusing on social and cultural topics. You should have completed an Intermediate course or reached B1.2/B1+ level  

In this course, you will be working towards level B2 of the Common European Framework of Languages.

Qualifications/credits

Course assessment is optional but on successful completion you will obtain 10 credits at Level 2 (SCQF 8). 

Mode of study

Language classes are interactive and collaborative, with plenty of exposure to the language and many opportunities to practise and learn with your peers.  

You will also have access to Moodle, the University’s virtual learning environment, where you will find additional activities for you to practise what you have learnt in class and to extend your knowledge. 

Prospects

At this level, you should be able to use the language with sufficient accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most conversations on social, cultural and professional topics.
