Summary

Develop and use your language skills flexibly and effectively in complex and abstract topics at a social, professional and academic level. In this course, you will polish and perfect the qualitative aspects of the language to help you express yourself with clarity, precision and accuracy, as well as gain a deeper awareness of the cultural aspects of the language and its speakers.   

Choose this course if you want to: 

- Develop a level of proficiency to be able to explore a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning; 

- Follow standard spoken language and a range of idiomatic expressions in a wider variety of fields; 

- Express yourself with a high degree of fluency and spontaneity on a wide range of topics providing quite detailed argumentation in complex subjects. 

- Have opportunities to expand your existing knowledge to produce clear, well-structured language on complex subjects in a coherent and cohesive manner. 

Who is this course for?

This course is recommended for learners who are already independent users of the language and want to develop their proficiency skills, having completed an Upper Intermediate course or reached level B2. In this course, you will be working towards level C1 of the Common European Framework of Languages.

Qualifications/credits

Course assessment is optional but on successful completion you will obtain 10 credits at Level 2 (SCQF 8). 

Mode of study

Language classes are interactive and collaborative, with plenty of exposure to the language and many opportunities to practise and learn with your peers.  

You will also have access to Moodle, the University’s virtual learning environment, where you will find additional activities for you to practise what you have learnt in class and to extend your knowledge. 

Prospects

At this level, you will be working towards achieving a full range of functionality at work or in an academic setting. A C1 levels allows for full autonomy in any areas where the language is spoken.
