Summary

This practical art course is designed for students who have previous experience of drawing and painting and want to further develop their skills and techniques through a variety of media. Students will further develop their understanding of the ‘the artist’s ‘working process’ how artists see and plan paintings through preparatory studies, developments, experiments, and research to produce finished art works, based on personal and group projects. 

Please note materials are not provided, but a suggested materials list will be given ahead of the class.   

Areas you'll explore include:  

  • Techniques and skills in drawing and painting.  
  • How to plan a painting through drawing, developments, experiments, and research.  
  • Ways to use the technical skills you learn to produce finished drawings and paintings. 

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Practically demonstrate your facility in various drawing and painting techniques to produce finished drawings and paintings 
  • Critically analyse the artist's working processes and apply it in your artwork

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has an interest in further developing their draw and paint skills and learn to see how an artist sees.  

Qualifications/credits

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications. 

Mode of study

This course is a mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study, delivered once a week over 10 weeks in 3-hour sessions.

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
