Summary

This course seeks to introduce students to drawing and painting skills and techniques, using a variety of media. Students will learn to see how an artist sees, draw and paint in various styles, and learn how artists plan paintings. Possible themes will include still life, landscape, portrait, figure, mixed media and abstract. Basic drawing and painting skills would be an advantage.  

Please note materials are not provided, but a suggested materials list will be given ahead of the class.   

Areas you'll explore include: 

  • Techniques and skills in drawing and painting.  
  • How to plan a painting through drawing, developments, experiments, and research.  
  • Ways to use the technical skills you learn to produce finished drawings and paintings. 

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Practically demonstrate your facility in various drawing and painting techniques to produce finished drawings and paintings. 
  • Identify the artist's working process and use it in your artwork

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has an interest in learning to draw and paint and learn to see how an artist sees. Some prior experience is desirable but not essential.  

Qualifications/credits

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications. 

Mode of study

A mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study 

 

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
