Important information on online learning

All language classes (except British Sign Language) will be delivered online using Zoom and Moodle, the University’s virtual learning environment. Our tutors will try to replicate face-to-face learning as much as possible although there are a number of changes we’ve had to make:

• Each session will be two hours long, divided into a 90-minute live Zoom session plus a 30-minute workshop/independent learning time. The sessions will take place on the same day and time every week.

• The 90-minute live sessions will concentrate mainly on developing speaking and listening skills.

• The 30-minute workshop/independent learning sessions can be used for individual and small group student support with the tutor or to complete additional guided learning via Moodle, our virtual learning environment, where you will find additional activities for you to practise what you have learnt in class and to extend your knowledge. Moodle resources will also be used to develop your reading and writing skills.

• Class numbers will be limited to 16 per class for a better online experience (see technical requirements to make the most of your time online).

In spite of these changes, language classes will continue to be interactive and collaborative, with plenty of exposure to the language and many opportunities to practise and learn with your peers.
