Summary
This course will provide a solid grounding in the key areas of numeracy and mathematics that will be useful for both academic and career progression.
Learn how to employ mathematical reasoning skills to interpret information, select appropriate strategies to solve problems, and communicate solutions. By the end of the course, you should also be able to select and apply skills in numeracy, algebra, trigonometry and statistics.
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone seeking to progress to further study that requires a grounding in maths of a similar level to a Scottish National 5.
Some previous study in maths and numeracy up to Scottish National 4 level maths would provide a useful grounding to help successfully engage with this course. Mode of study
This 12-week course will be delivered via 2-hour seminars led by a tutor.
The course is assessed via three 30-minute unit tests and one final 60-minute summary test. The tests take place during class timings and are interspersed over the duration of the course. The three unit tests are each weighted at 20% and the final test at 40% of the final grade.
Prospects
This course can take you on to more advanced mathematical study (e.g. Access Maths) or can contribute towards progression to degree programmes requiring SCQF Level 5 Maths.
