Student Contract
The Student Contract is a legally binding agreement between you and the University comprising three documents:
- your offer from us;
- the Student Terms and Conditions; and
- the University Regulations.
The Student Contract is formed when you accept an offer of a place on a programme or course at the University. We will review and may make changes to the Student Terms and Conditions each year. Your registration for the following year will be considered an acceptance of those changes.
You must read all three documents carefully before you accept an offer of a place. Some important areas of the Student Contract are highlighted below.

Tuition Fees
Even if you may have made arrangements with a student finance authority (for example SAAS) or a third party sponsor to pay your tuition fees on your behalf, you remain personally responsible for payment if they do not pay your tuition fees. It is your responsibility to resolve any disputes you may have with your student finance authority or third party sponsor. See Section 6.4 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
If your tuition fees are not paid before the deadline and you don’t make alternative arrangements with us, there may be significant consequences for you. The University may ultimately end the Student Contract with you. See Section 6.7 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
If you are a student on a postgraduate programme that requires a deposit, and you do not pay the deposit by the deadline for payment, the University may withdraw your offer and end the Student Contract. See Section 7.3 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
The University has the right to increase tuition fees and other charges applicable to your programme each year. See Section 6.3 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
Changes
The University can make changes to programmes, courses, regulations and policies, including the cancellation of a programme or course. We will use reasonable endeavours to deliver programmes and courses as advertised, however changes may be made in response to certain circumstances. See Sections 10 and 15 of the Terms and Conditions for more information on the types of circumstances which may lead to changes, including development of academic knowledge, limits on student numbers and events outside of our control such as epidemics and industrial action taken by staff.
The University's Responsibilities to You
The Terms and Conditions set out what we are responsible for and what we are not responsible for. The University is not responsible for any loss or damage to you, or your property caused by you or by another student or third party. See Section 16.2 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
In addition, the University is not responsible for any failure to carry out any obligations owed to you due to an event outside of the University’s reasonable control (such as a pandemic, industrial action, adverse weather, or accidental destruction of a building). See Section 21.1 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
Your Responsibilities to the University
You are responsible for obtaining insurance (such as medical or travel insurance) you may need during your period of study. See Section 17.1 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
You are responsible for declaring any unspent criminal convictions which you have been requested to disclose by the University. See Section 3.11 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
You are responsible for adhering to University Regulations and maintaining appropriate standard of behaviour as outlined in our policies and codes of conduct. See Section 12 of the Terms and Conditions for more information. Failure to comply with these regulations and policies may result in action under the codes of conduct.
How the Student Contract May End
There are a number of ways in which the Student Contract may come to an end.
You may cancel the Student Contract within 14 days of accepting your offer. See Section 19.2 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
You may end the Student Contract for other reasons outlined in Sections 19.3 and 19.4 of the Terms and Conditions.
The University may end your Student Contract because of certain actions by you, outlined in Section 19.5 of the Terms and Conditions.
The University may end your Student Contract if your programme becomes subject to UK export control laws and is unable to: (a) obtain an export control licence in respect of your participation in the programme; or (b) vary the programme to an extent that no export control licence is required; or (c) find an appropriate alternative programme for you at the University. Following the end of the Student Contract, any outstanding fees owed by you are payable in full immediately. See Section 20.1 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
Certain terms and conditions will continue to apply after the end of the Student Contract. See Section 20.5 of the Terms and Conditions for more information.
Tuition Fee Refunds
