Dr Samantha Oakley

  • Research Governance & Integrity Manager (Research Services)

Biography

I am a member of Research Services, leading on the development and implementation of research governance activities, supporting the University research community to conduct their research to the highest standards, including fulfilling their legal responsibilities in an increasingly complex and changing regulatory environment.

Background

I originally completed a PhD in Egyptology following on from a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology. I then worked as a computer programmer and analyst in the finance industry. I re-trained as a librarian in 2003 and specialised in Research Support covering open research, bibliometrics and the REF, including training and staff development activities. I became a Chartered Librarian in 2007 and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2017. I completed a Pg.Cert in Digital Pedagogy in 2021 and achieved Senior Fellowship of RET in 2024.

Before joining the University of Glasgow in 2019 I was working in scholarly communications, specialising in library research support activities such as open access, research data management, the REF, bibliometrics, research impact and research profiles. My initial role at the university was a Researcher Development and Integrity Specialist, focussed on ensuring researchers have appropriate training and resources to develop their research capacity. This included developing our in-house research integrity training, supervisor workshops, and facilitating events such as the Glasgow Crucible and our Research Staff Conference.
