Biography
Sam qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2001 and joined the Oncology service within the University of Glasgow’s Small Animal Hospital in 2003. She worked within the service for many years during which time she successfully gained her RCVS Advanced Diploma in Medicine, a BSc top-up degree in Veterinary Nursing, and an MSc in Veterinary Clinical Sciences investigating the role of C-reactive protein as a biomarker in dogs with lymphoma. Sam became the Deputy Nursing Services Manager in 2014 where she co-managed a team of approximately 60 veterinary nurses and veterinary care assistants. She is now a full-time Lecturer in the Veterinary Teaching Team and is Director of the online distance learning PGCert/PGDip/MSc Advanced Practice in Veterinary Nursing, and First Year Course Leader for the BVMS programme. Her current research interests include issues which affect the veterinary nursing profession including burnout and poor retention, and what motivates veterinary nurses to undertake postgraduate education. Sam is currently working towards a Doctorate in Education.
