Dr Jose Rafael Verduzco-Torres
- Lecturer in Urban Analytics (Urban Studies & Social Policy)
Biography
Rafael is a Lecturer in Urban Analytics at the Division of Urban Studies and Social Policy. His work centres on the examination and potential applications of emerging forms of data and innovative methodologies to address urban mobility and transport research questions. He is particularly interested in the interactions between spatial accessibility, the urban economy, and social equity. Rafael contributes to teaching in the Urban Analytics and Urban Transport programmes and is also a member of the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC), where he often collaborates with the Data Service in the development and curation of various datasets.
Rafael's practical experience spans his work with government transport agencies and local authorities in Mexico from 2011 to 2018, where he designed and implemented transport policies that informed his academic research. This blend of practice and scholarship bridges theoretical insights with real-world applications, motivating collaborations that extend beyond academic boundaries.
He obtained his PhD in 2023 at the University of Glasgow in 2022, with the thesis titled "Revisiting the Capitalisation of Public Transport Accessibility into Residential Land Value: An Empirical Analysis Drawing on Open Science" available here. He also holds a master's in Urban Management and Development from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
