Purpose of visit: Jorge Alfredo will carry out collaborative research with Helen in Economic and Social History to identify potentially effective policies for confronting the effects of climate change on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). They will be investigating lessons that might be learned from Cuba’s science-led approach to climate policy including adaptation and community engagement.
During his stay, the will host a workshop in the University of Glasgow and invite colleagues working within the Sustainability IRT, and others interested in policymaking for climate change adaptation to come along and exchange knowledge and ideas with Professor Carballo. They are keen to expand our networks and contacts in this area.
Bio: As a social scientist in FLACSO, Jorge Alfredo is actively involved in shaping the process of popular consultation and community participation and education which are key aspects of Tarea Vida, Cuba’s State Plan to Confront Climate Change. His work evaluates the socio-economic impacts of climate change. As a political economist, He also contributes to the formulation and evaluation of national development strategy.
