Celebrating Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Our multidisciplinary approach to researching the dynamics of digital society has been supported by 13 grants (almost £1m) to enable examinations of how digital technologies (services, devices, networks) shape and intersect with social, political and cultural change, such as: smart innovations in public services using AI and related technologies.
Expertise in social theory is a longstanding strength of the Unit, and we combine methodological approaches (e.g., multi-method modelling; digital ethnography, visual and sensory methods, collaborative action research) to produce innovative analyses. Our innovative and expanding use of creative arts-based methodologies across our research themes (e.g. graphic novels, ‘zines, photography, documentary film making, stained glass, dance, music, collaborative song-writing and exhibitions) are being used as both methods of research, analytical frameworks and forms of public engagement and communication.
