Social Theory
Following on from an illustrious tradition of theory at Glasgow, including names such as David Frisby, Harvie Ferguson and Bridget Fowler, we engage in theoretical work that produces exegesis, evaluation and development.
While being grounded in the classics, and in particular valuing a historical approach to the application of theory, we work across multiple theoretical schools and approaches within our three subjects of sociology, criminology and anthropology.
In doing so, whether developing work in the Black Radical approach, contemporary developments in Marxism, theories of supervision and surveillance, relational approaches of the critical study of modernity what unites colleagues in this field is the desire to see theory as a living attempt to understand, and critique, the social forms we live within.
