Gender and sexuality
Glasgow Sociology hosts a critical mass of researchers with a passionate interest in the broad areas of gender and sexualities. Their work is intellectually underpinned by the presupposition that analyses of gender relations and sexuality are central to sociological debates about power, social justice and everyday social practices.
Recent work has been international in scope and includes publications on the themes of migration, sexuality and personal relationships; intra-European migration from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, ethnographic studies of the everyday lives of lesbian and bisexual women in contemporary urban Russia; the global politics of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender human rights and the sociology of human rights.
Significant research on questions of gender related to punishment and justice has also been produced in the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research and scholars work across the School of Social & Political Sciences as part of the Gender and Sexualities Forum and in the Gender Based Violence Research Forum.
