Bourque and Charsley Prizes

The Cloisters

The Nicole Bourque Prize is a prize awarded each year to to the student who achieves the best overall grade in their Honours dissertation. It was established in honour of Dr Nicole Bourque, a late member of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Applied Social Sciences at Glasgow University.

Nicole was a passionate advocate for empirical, and particularly ethnographic research, for undergraduate dissertations. This prize honours her commitment to our undergraduate students and the bold, adventurous research they undertake.

The Simon Charslely Prize is a prize set up in honour of Simon Charsley, a founding member of the department, and is awarded to the best piece of undergraduate writing in anthropology.

A scholar committed to sharing his research widely, both inside and outside the university, Simon was also an outstanding teacher, who provided successive generations of students with an engaging and intellectually stimulating introduction to anthropology.
