Sociological & Cultural Studies
About the Division
The Division of Sociological and Cultural Studies at the University of Glasgow is committed to advancing critical, interdisciplinary research that addresses historical and contemporary societal challenges. Encompassing Sociology, Media, Culture & Society, Criminology, and Social Anthropology & Migration, the Division explores diverse themes such as inequalities, power, justice, and social movements.
Our research is informed by a range of theoretical perspectives, including feminist, postcolonial, Marxist, and post-structuralist theories, and employs innovative methodologies to investigate pressing issues—from digital culture and urban transformations to violence, migration, and health disparities. With a focus on collaboration, we engage with policymakers, activists, cultural producers, and communities to drive meaningful societal change. Through teaching and research, we aim to equip graduates with the critical and ethical tools to navigate and address the complexities of a rapidly evolving world.
