PhD in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, MA in Museum and Gallery Management at the  City University of London, BA in Art History at the Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan                   

Yupin Chung’s research is centred on the interaction of art and economics, with a particular interest in the influence of Western collectors and dealers in the Chinese art market and museum collections. She is currently working on the preparation of a publication on economic and aesthetic practices and discourses in Chinese art collecting. Dr Chung has written on a number of significant collectors and dealers of Chinese art, including essays on William Hesketh Lever (1851-1925) and Frank Partridge (1875-1953). She is a Curator of East Asian Art in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow Museums.

Research interests: Art and Material Culture of China; History of Chinese Ceramics; Oriental Design Influence in the Western World; 19th Century Photography in China; Art, Poetry and Music Intervention

 2013-14  Yellow, Red and Blue: Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow Museums

 2011   China through the Lens of John Thomson 1868-1872 (4 February – 12 June) – Curator of the major exhibition of the work of the Scottish photographer and traveller John Thomson (1837-1921).

 2011   ‘Motes of Living Light’ – short film in cooperation with Thomas Jacobi (Artist), David Greygoose (Poet) and Eddie McGuire (Composer), commissioned by Glasgow Museums.

 2009-2010   ‘Chinese Stories’ – supported by the City of Liverpool, Arts Council England, and the Windows Project exploring the lives of Chinese people on Merseyside. The everyday life of a “Chinatown” widening dialogues between a curator and the Chinese community.
