Abstract

Dr Xia will be speaking on the subject of her first book The Diplomatic Making of EU-China Relations: Structure, Substance and Style (Routledge, 2024). it introduces a novel theoretical model of diplomatic relationship-building that brings to the fore the more nuanced and latent factors to make sense of EU-China diplomatic relationship-building, and sheds light on the opportunities and challenges in enhancing EU-China relations.

Speaker Biography

Lucie Qian Xia is a diplomatic scholar and policy advisor. She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford, and previously taught international relations and politics at Oxford University, Sciences Po Paris, and was the China Policy Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She has also held research positions at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, EGMONT – The Royal Institute for International Relations in Brussels, and the Centre de recherches internationales in Paris. Beyond academia, she has worked at the Delegation of the European Union to China in Beijing and the UN Representation Office to the EU in Brussels.
