Alissa Stollwerk, Ph.D., (she/her) is Vice President of YouGov Blue at YouGov America, where she helps progressives, campaigns, and non-profits leverage innovations in polling and online survey research to achieve their goals, both in the US and internationally. Alissa has over a decade of experience in Democratic politics and is a veteran of the Analyst Institute and Hillary for America. She received her Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University. She specializes in election polling, survey experiments, and applied statistics.

How to think clearly about the central limit theorem (with Dr. Cathy (Xijuan) Zhang) -Wednesday 22 February 3pm GMT

Cathy (Xijuan) Zhang, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the quantitative methods area in the Department of Psychology at York University, Ontario, Canada. Her main research is on structural equation modelling (SEM), which is an advanced statistical method involving both latent and observed variables. She also writes teaching papers that help psychology students better understand statistical concepts. Her talk will be based on her recent paper "How to think clearly about the Central Limit Theorem?" published in the Psychological Methods journal. In this talk, she will use everyday language to explain what the Central Limit Theorem is, how it is related to the beautiful bell-shaped normal curve, and why it is considered the most important theorem in statistics.

Careers in big data (with Walid Hadid) - Wednesday 22 March 3pm GMT

Walid Hadid is Head of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence and is a Business Partner in The Weir Group PLC, based in London.  He holds a Master's Degree in Social Statistics from the University of Southhampton.  He has spent over 25 years in industry, working with data at all levels leading development of artificial intelligence and machine learning to support social behaviour analysis.
