We are pleased to announce that Professor Ariadne Vromen has been appointed as Head of Division for Political and International Studies and will join us in February 2025.

Head of School, Professor Anne Kerr, shared “Professor Vromen brings a wealth of expertise and an extensive background, her experience and leadership will be a great asset to our School. I look forward to welcoming Professor Vromen and working with her.” 

Professor Vromen is currently the Sir John Bunting Chair of Public Administration in the Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University. She has served as Deputy Dean of Research for the Australia and New Zealand School of Government since 2020, where she co-created a new collaborative model for government-university research. Prior to this role she was a political sociology professor at the University of Sydney for 21 years, building a research portfolio focused on citizen engagement, digital politics and governance, women and the future of work, policy advocacy, and young people and politics.

Professor Vromen shared ‘"I'm very excited to move to the University of Glasgow to lead an outstanding group of academics, professional staff and students in Political and International Studies. Over the next few years I look forward to us all working together on strengthening the Division's excellence in teaching, research, engagement, and collegiality."

An avid music lover, Professor Vromen is bringing her growing record collection to Glasgow and already has plans to attend several concerts, including two at the famous Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom.
