Professor Jane Duckett awarded Guest Professorship at Nankai University, China

Professor Jane Duckett, Edward Caird Chair of Politics, is Director of the Scottish Centre for China research and the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow. The Institute is a partnership with Nankai University and the Chinese Ministry of Education’s Office for Chinese (Hanban).

The award ceremony took place on 23 June at Nankai University, Tianjin, China. University President, Professor Gong Ke presented the award in front of colleagues and students. Professor Jane Duckett then gave a lecture titled ‘Trends in Western Chinese Studies’. This was also the inaugural lecture in a new Nankai-Glasgow lecture series.
Professor Duckett had research collaborations with Nankai University dating back to 1992, when she spent a year there. Since then she has visited regularly for research on Chinese local government and politics, poverty and social policy.
