Applications are invited for two PhD studentships funded by Urban Studies journal to commence by 1 October 2012. The studentships will be held in the Urban Studies subject area within the School of Social and Political Sciences. Urban Studies is one of Europe’s leading centres of urban and housing research. It promotes both disciplinary or inter-disciplinary research on the economic, social and governance aspects of regional, urban, neighbourhood and housing issues. There is also a strong interest in the broader public policies and professional practices required to create the conditions for more equitable outcomes for citizens. Applications are sought from candidates with research interests in any area relevant to Urban Studies; we are able to provide supervision in politics, sociology, economics, geography and social/public policy.
Funding may be offered for a 3 year or a 4 year PhD programme depending on previous research training and experience. Funding will cover fees, research expenses and an annual stipend of £13,590.
The closing date for applications is 4pm on 10 February with interviews to be held with short-listed candidates on 1 March. Applications should be sent electronically to Dr Mhairi Mackenzie and should include a curriculum vitae, 2 references, previous degree transcripts and a 1,000 research proposal.
