Exploring my subjects of interest through study and internships
Yuliia Parkhomenko, graduate of Erasmus Mundus IntM Central and East European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CEERES)
The Erasmus Mundus International Master in Central and East European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies was an incredibly valuable and life-changing experience that allowed me to deepen my knowledge of the region, travel extensively, and build a robust professional and social network.
Although the lockdown prevented me from living in Tartu, I enjoyed my time in Glasgow and Budapest. I made significant connections and worked with esteemed scholars. During my first year, I developed a strong interest in ethnopolitics and nationalism through one of the modules offered. During my mobility year in Budapest, I delved deeper into these subjects and completed an internship at a leading institution specialising in minority issues. I also took a language course, which was instrumental in conducting research for my MA thesis and made my stay in Hungary much more comfortable.
Currently, I work as an OSNIT analyst, with a focus on Ukraine and the Eastern European region more broadly. The knowledge and skills I acquired during my MA studies have been invaluable to my career.
My main advance to the incoming students is to embrace all the opportunities offered by the University of Glasgow and to foster long-lasting friendships and connections.
