THE BRITISH PSYCHOLOGICAL SOCIETY (BPS) - UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP SCHEME
Awards will be made to researchers (not directly to the student) to allow them to provide an undergraduate with 'hands-on' experience of research during the summer vacation, to gain an insight into scientific research and to encourage them to consider an academic career.
The scheme is a prestigious award that marks out a student as a future researcher and potential academic. It is hoped that the senior researcher, to whom the award is made, will develop the student's potential and interest in research.
Applicants must be at least a Graduate Member of the Society who are active psychology researchers employed by a UK HEI, who may then appoint an undergraduate student who is finishing the penultimate year of their degree to become their Research Assistant in the summer break before the start of the final year of their degree.
To be eligible to receive a Research Assistantship award, students must be completing a Society accredited undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in psychology; be considering research as a career; be expecting to achieve a 2.1 or a 1st class degree; and be finishing the penultimate year of their degree and due to start their final year following the completion of the project.
The award provides a student stipend at a weekly rate of £270, for a 6-8 week project.

EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY SOCIETY (EPS) – Undergraduate Research Bursary
UG research bursaries provide a grant for undergraduates entering their final year of study who are planning a research career in experimental psychology. The bursary will be administered, and the research project carried out, at the applicant's institution (although this need not be the institution at which the student is currently registered for a degree) and under the applicant’s supervision. The purpose of these bursaries is to allow the student to learn at first-hand about experimental procedures and analyses employed in the host laboratory.
Awards will be made to members of the Society and will provide up to 10 weeks’ support (£375 per week) for their nominated undergraduate.
Members may not apply for the scheme if they currently hold an EPS Small Grant, or if they received a Small Grant in the immediately preceding year. Applicants cannot apply both for a Small Grant and for an Undergraduate Research Bursary in the same calendar year. Awards will not be granted for work that is a central part of an already-funded project.

MEDICAL RESEARCH SCOTLAND - UNDERGRADUATE VACATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications are now invited from intending supervisors (not from students) for Undergraduate Vacation Scholarships for tenure during the summer vacation.
Medical Research Scotland Vacation Scholarships provide promising undergraduates with hands-on experience of research for a 6 week period during the summer vacation and have the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in research. They provide a weekly student stipend paid at the Real Living Wage rate, regardless of age, based on a 35 hour week.
Undergraduate students wishing to undertake a Vacation Scholarship should seek advice from their tutors or advisers of studies about how best to find a suitable supervisor. Medical Research Scotland cannot help students find supervisors.

AVA Bradshaw-Eagle Undergraduate Research Scholarship
The aim of this scheme is to support undergraduates who wish to carry out supervised summer research projects during the middle years of their degree in a vision laboratory, normally in a UK Higher Education Institution. The Scholarship will provide a stipend (£200 per week, subsistence, for up to 8 weeks) to support undergraduates to carry out a self-contained vision-related research project, in the laboratory of an AVA member.
Students must be studying a relevant discipline (usually psychology, biology, optometry or a related discipline) and should be in the middle years of their degree program (i.e. not the first year, nor the last year, of studies) when the application is submitted.
The project supervisor will be responsible for the application and will be the formal award-holder, if an award is offered. They must be an AVA member. The supervisor must hold an established academic position, normally within a UK university. They must be able to guarantee the student space, and full supervision, in their laboratory for the project period. Preference will be given to applicants who have not held this award in the past. Only one application per student and supervisor is allowed in any one year. Supervisors must be able to confirm that the student has not obtained an award from any other source for this project.

Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarships
These awards provide promising undergraduates with hands-on experience of research during the summer vacation, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in research. These vacation scholarships are available for between six and eight weeks and provides a salary at the real Living Wage regardless of age.
Applicants should be undergraduates in the middle year of a first degree (i.e. not the first or last year at the time of submission) and studying said degree in a relevant subject at a university within the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Revental subjects include:
- basic science (including biomedical, natural, computing or physical sciences)
- medicine
- dentistry
- veterinary medicine
- engineering
- mathematics
- allied health professionals
Students and supervisors should develop the project and application together. The application should be a project that can be realistically undertaken within a maximum of eight weeks. The student should not be viewed as an extra pair of hands in the host laboratory. Preference will be given to undergraduates with no previous research experience. Students are encouraged to arrange their scholarship away from their usual place of study, to broaden their experience.

CARNEGIE TRUST FOR SCOTLAND - Vacation Scholarships for Undergraduates
The Carnegie Trust is a charitable organisation founded by Scots-American steel magnate Andrew Carnegie in 1901. The Trust supports education and research at the Scottish universities through a number of funding schemes.
This Carnegie Vacation Scholarship for Undergraduates provides the opportunity to undertake an independent research project in any academic field of study, to develop valuable research skills, to investigate a topic of particular interest to you and to hone academic writing skills by writing up about the results of your work.
Applications from 3rd year students on a 4 year course are considered, and must be entitled to live and work and the UK. Students with Limited Leave to Remain, Pre-settled or Settled Status, or students on a Tier 4 Visa, must be able to prove that they are eligible to work full-time in the UK in the period between May and August. The applicant must be on track to achieve a 2:1 (or higher) degree classification and should never have held a Carnegie Vacation Scholarship.
Scholarships are between 2-12 weeks in duration and can be carried out at any time during the summer vacation, typically from June onwards. They provide a student stipend based on the Scottish Living Wage, for 35 hours per week.
There is an online application process for this Scholarship and applications must be approved by the Head of School prior to submission. Please bear this in mind to ensure that the deadline for submitting applications to the Trust can be met.
