Biography
Professor Wood is currently also Chief Electro-Optics Technologist at Thales (Glasgow and Reading).
Previously he was Electro-optics Technologist and Survivability Team Leader at QinetiQ Farnborough, Principal Scientist at DERA Portsdown West, Research Fellow in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics University of Southampton and Research Assistant, Physics Dept, Swansea University.

Research interests summary
I am interested in active and passive electro-optic sensing and quantum detection technologies for industrial applications. I have interests in design, modelling, testing and trialling of sub-components and systems involving:
- Sensor networks and cued response systems
- Free space optical communications
- Quantum detection and imaging systems
- LIDAR
- Thermal imaging systems
- Situational awareness systems
- Modelling of electro-optic sensor systems
- Photoacoustic and photothermal imaging and sensing
- High power laser/material interactions
- Chemical and biological sensing using electro-optics
- Atmospheric propagation and modelling
- Field trialling of deployable systems
