This laboratory houses the fiber pulling system, along with a variety of fiber testing equipment. Silica fibers are manufactured in round or rectangular cross-section using the pulling system, and are then stress-tested either to destruction or to proof weight. There are also facilities for welding silica (fibers, ears etc) using either an oxy-hydrogen flame or CO2 laser.
