The Kelvin Prize Committee have spent an enjoyable time reading PhD theses submitted during 2022 and nominated by research groups for an award. We were impressed by the research scholarship and innovation demonstrated across a wide range of topics, as well as the engaging presentation of the material.
The following awards are being made (in alphabetical order by surname):
Kelvin Prize and Medal
Fergus Hayes : Advanced Techniques in Gravitational Wave Signal Detection and Multimessenger Astronomy
Frederic Rendell-Bhatti : Manipulation and exploitation of the dynamic processes of Skyrmions
Panagiotis Stylianou : Collider phenomenology of new physics beyond the Standard Model
Kelvin Prize
Louise Clark : Hadron spectroscopy of pseudoscalar and vector meson photoproduction using linearly polarised photons at CLAS
Jonathan Jamieson : Aiming for the top corner: Measuring top-quark pair production in association with additional jets in highly boosted events using the ATLAS detector
Jethro Linley : Probing the general dynamics of compact binary systems with multi-band gravitational-wave observations
We will be asking for nominations for PhD theses submitted during 2023 at the beginning of next year. Please bear this in mind as PhD theses cross your desk during the year.
