Before being appointed as Lecturer in Chinese at Glasgow in 2014, I was Lecturer in Chinese Studies at the National University of Ireland (Maynooth) (2013-2014), Senior Research Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong (2010-2013), and ATRE (Attaché Temporaire d'Enseignement et de Recherche) at the University of Lyon (Jean Moulin) (2007-2010). I was on maternity leave 2018-2019.
My current research project explores thinking on education undertaken by the Paris Chinese anarchist group from the late Qing to the early Republican era. It examines how the question of education and learning was discussed and transformed in their transnational education experiments in Europe and investigates the importance of education in constructing the social imaginary of modernity in China. I am writing a monograph on this subject (under contract with the Amsterdam University Press).
