The Straelener Übersetzerpreis belongs to the highest translation prizes in Europe. Eva Profousová receives the Straelen Translation Prize primarily for her translation of Jáchym Topol's "Ein empfindsamer Mensch" (Suhrkamp, 2019). However, the prize is also awarded in special recognition of her translation work as a whole and is endowed with 25,000 euros.

"The translator's sensitive navigation leaves no detail out of consideration and does justice to the tension of the original throughout. There is hardly a sentence that does not have a particular translation difficulty to overcome, and yet the joy of the play radiates from every pore of the text," said the jury in its statement.

Eva Profousová was born in Prague in 1963 and has lived in Germany since 1983. She studied Slavonic Studies and Eastern European History in Hamburg and Glasgow and works as a translator. She has translated work by Radka Denemarková, Jaroslav Rudiš, Katarína Kucbelová, Martin Šmaus, Kateřina Tučková and Petr Zelenka.
