Biography

Dr Al-Ani was awarded his MSc in Prosthodontocis from Manchester University in 1999. In 2004 he was awarded his doctorate from the same University; the title of his thesis was “Studies in Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion”. He was appointed by Manchester University as Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry in 2004 as well as a Research coordinator for the TMD clinic.

He was officially appointed as a Director of the IADR Prosthodontics Research Group in 2007. In the IADR meeting in Toronto 2008, he has been nominated again by Prosthodntics Research Group for the same position in 2010.

In 2006, he obtained MFDS From The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

In recognition of his teaching activities, he was awarded the status of Fellow of Higher Education Academy in 2010.

Dr. Al-Ani has received multiple prestigious awards and recognitions for his contributions to dental education:

Dr Al-Ani was one of the two finalists in the “Teacher of the Year” (2006) as awarded by The Dental Defence Union. The award recognised excellence in dental education. He was again the Nominee for the 2007 and 2008 “Dentist Teacher of the year Award” by the Dental Defence Union after nominations made by undergraduate students at Manchester Dental School

In 2015, he was awarded the “Excellence in Teaching Award” by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to excellence in dental education as an Early Career Educator.

During the academic year 2015/16, Dr. Al-Ani was nominated as the Best Teacher in the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences (MVLS) by the Student Teaching Awards, organized by the Glasgow University Students' Representative Council.

For his commitment to excellence in teaching and his contributions to Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching (TELT) at the Dental School, Dr. Al-Ani received the University “Teaching Excellence Team Award” for 2015-2016. That same year, he was also honoured with the College Teaching Excellence Award by the University of Glasgow.

In 2017/18, the Students’ Representative Council at the University of Glasgow nominated Dr. Al-Ani for two Student Teaching Awards: “Best Teacher in the College of MVLS” and “Highly Innovative Teaching”. He won the award for Highly Innovative Teaching, further highlighting his dedication to advancing educational practices.

In 2023, Dr. Al-Ani was once again nominated by the Students’ Representative Council at the University of Glasgow for the “Best Teacher in the College of MVLS” Award, which he went on to win.

He conducted many research projects which led to several presentations at local and international meetings and publications.
